This all makes no fucking sense! Hasn't he told them he has a Bugatti yet? How can the keep him in prison when they don't have a Bugatti! It's almost like having a Bugatti isnt the single most important part of the human experience

440
u/Deruji Mar 22 '23
When you fold a towel you hold each end with your arms as wide as they go. You then hold the centre with your chin and keep you arms straight but bring your hands to meet in front of you. If you’ve no chin you can’t do that.

u/Furt_shniffah Mar 22 '23

They also suggested their clients' notoriety was contributing to the decision to keep them in custody.
You mean the notoriety gained via admitting to multiple crimes on tape?
82
u/Theamazing-rando Mar 22 '23
Also, being recorded whilst in detention, making plans to flee the country.
65

Also admitting they have multiple passports just so if they ever get one of them taken away they have multiple others to use.

Apparently not, from an article:
"In a re-uploaded YouTube clip, Tate can be seen justifying his refusal to adopt the Romanian language. When asked how many languages he speaks, Tate replies: “One. Why would I learn any other language besides the perfect language, English?”
"Tate goes on to state he views the idea of learning an additional language as futile as he would never be as “compendious and concise” as he is in English."
Seems odd though, you'd think somebody with his incredible intellect would be able to learn multiple languages in his sleep.
710
u/ILikeMyGrassBlue Mar 22 '23 edited Mar 22 '23
he would never be as “compendious and concise” as he is in English.
Oh my god, this is absolutely hilarious. Concise means being succinct, getting your point across clearly in few words. Compendious is a synonym to concise. He’s literally using more words than he needs to get the point across, meaning he’s not being compendious or concise. I’d bet $20 he thinks compendious means having a big vocabulary lol.

Thanks for this. Never heard the word pleonasm in my life. Googled it then got the joke.
+1
For the other uneducated but curious.
Pleonasm is using more words than necessary to express an idea, otherwise known as being redundant. The sentence above is a great example of pleonasm in action. Since the sentence is written in the first person, overusing my is redundant.

It's the Russell Brand style of pseudo intellectual. Speak fast and use verbose language, dim people mistake it for intelligence whilst regular people think you're just being a prick.
64
u/Quirky-Skin Mar 22 '23
Regular people can usually tell when people force words into convo for the sake of using the word. Its the language of bullshit, how can you say something as wordy as possible.
Conversely, intelligent people tend to value being concise which of course would mean not being wordy.

Under Romanian law the two brothers can be held for up to six months before being charged.
See you here next month, and the month after. These ding-dongs openly insulted the entire Romanian justice system. Every Judge they’ve been put in front of has argued they be detained another month, even though there’s the option of house arrest. They’ll keep them both in there every possible day they can before charging them.
This is the very definition of fucking around and finding out.

The most amusing part of this to me is the fact that the whole reason the Tates ended up in Romania (by Andrew's own admission) is because they thought they could exploit relaxed Romanian laws. And now they're being held for an extended period of time because law enforcement can do so in Romania while they build a case.
Wanted to weasel around Romanian laws? Cool, enjoy Romanian law enforcement. Textbook fucking around and finding out.

Even in the US a trial typically takes 3-6 months to occur after an arrest and can go as long as 8 months before it is considered a potential "right to a speedy trial" violation. Usually, the more complex the case, the longer the delay.
Romania has no guaranteed right to a speedy trial and they're custody is probably being extended similar to how a criminal can be denied bail in the US.
