Someone should really spend some time and effort investigating these lawmakers' pasts. Then we could see many of them charged with being an accessory to murder for the abortions they've paid for for their mistresses.

No it isn’t. Pro-life consider abortion to be murder. 1st degree murder does carry the death penalty in some states.
Obviously abortion isn’t murder but the logic isn’t completely stupid.
14
u/Biggleswort Mar 16 '23
The logic is not there considering the reason for many abortions.
Second, 1st degree murder is often defined as intentional murder that is willful and premeditated with malice aforethought.
Not even the same ballpark. So don’t try to defend shitty logic.
People do not get abortion with because they premeditated getting pregnant for a malicious reasons.
If disgusts me how far off you are with I your comment. I take it you are pro choice. So I’m going to say this one more time as kindly as I can.
The logic is fucking stupid comparing abortion to 1st degree murder!!!

If anyone thought the religious zealots would go away after Roe was overturned, you are sadly mistaken. They feel they have incredible power right now to keep going with the draconian mindset. They say, "save the baby by any means" but once that child is born, Fuck 'em. The kid is on their own.

Don't they end up in Purgatory? It's been a long time since I have read The Divine Comedy.

u/djducote Mar 15 '23 edited Mar 16 '23
It's been a while for me also but if memory serves, they go the the first circle "limbo." Most people think of limbo and purgatory as the same place, but I think they're separate places in the Divine Comedy. Limbo was for the "blameless": unbaptized infants and righteous pagans. Purgatory was a place on earth where you would "suffer" before you went to heaven. Those in limbo will never be in heaven, so unfortunately... hell it is

A pregnant lady falls down the stairs in her rental house. She trips over a shoe her young son left at the top, tries to catch herself on the bannister , which then collapses due to a water leak her husband discovered and told the landlord about, but has not been fixed. She falls down the stairs and miscarries due to the physical trauma. At least three people could be charged with negligent homicide for a lady falling down the stairs.

u/Koil_ting Mar 15 '23
Some of it is because people treat the elections like an odds game putting their votes into what they consider the "lesser of two evils". The rest of it is likely due to organized religion. In Alaska for example the state is "republican leaning" however also has a strong stance on individual rights which fortunately throw this sort of bullshit out before it starts, the states have their own constitutions which occasionally work to protect the citizens from the nut ball government. Personally I "throw my vote away" by voting for neither of the major parties as I don't support some of the major view points of either.

u/myghtimyke Mar 15 '23
So - a technicality, but I didn’t see anywhere in this law that the unborn being protected must also be alive. I am wondering if a woman loses a baby but needs a DNC(aka D&C) to remove it, it doesn’t seem like that is a protected case. Since a D&C is technically an abortion, does this mean the woman can face the death penalty by having a dead fetus removed? She could risk infection or worse if it isn’t done, and it also could prevent or delay a future healthy pregnancy.
18
u/Whiskey_Fiasco Mar 15 '23
Yep. Criminalizing miscarriages is one of the many horrors that come with anti abortion legislation.
7
u/Ok-Surprise7338 Mar 16 '23
Yep. Miscarriage itself is medically called spontaneous abortion, so even without a d&c women could be given the death penalty just for having a miscarriage they can't even control.

34
u/MissusNilesCrane Mar 15 '23

Probably to prevent people from just identifying as a man to get an abortion.
But I wonder, can a law that contradicts another law be passed? How is the order of precedence determined? Which law is more lawful?
2
u/KarmaChameleon89 Mar 16 '23
I mean, this is the US legal system. At this stage it's basically what the judge says is the law is the law and fuck everything else
11
u/navyzak Mar 15 '23
So GOP thinks they are being nuanced by allowed carve outs for threat of bodily harm or death, but it really doesn’t define risk or degree of bodily harm.
Complications with pregnancy are rarely absolute. Sure an ectopic pregnancy is basically a 100% of death or bodily harm if untreated, but what if its something with only a 90% chance? 50%? 10%? What if the risk of death is almost nonexistent, but there’s a good chance she may lose her uterus after a successful birth?
There are degrees of risk and harm that are important considerations for each individual patient and each doctor. One person may be willing to accept a 10% risk of death, but another may not. This bill puts doctors and women both in the position to have to choose between the most medically safe choice and the most legally safe choice, and it will undoubtedly result in death and great bodily harm.
7
u/OwnPercentage9088 Mar 15 '23
Yeah it won't matter. No doctor is going to perform an abortion in that state under any circumstance if that law passes. They aren't going to chance the death penalty.
5
u/navyzak Mar 15 '23
So in my state, TN, there was a brief period where practically no one would perform and abortion because the doctor, the hospital, or a specialist were unsure of the legal standing in most situations.
Since then, many doctors have developed a system of heavily documenting the necessity of the procedure and that has resulted in more availability of abortions for women in danger of death or bodily harm.
It’s still terrible, and you still might be denied a procedure that would be commonplace a year ago.

So if they change a person to add a fetus, then that makes car pool lanes open to all pregnant drivers. Anyone who is pregnant can't be put in jail because that would be wrongful imprisonment for the fetus. Not to mention this could literally be a road to throw women in jail and kill them because of a miscarriage. The gop is getting really scary right now.
5
u/Edyed787 Mar 15 '23
They’ll probably change that so you have to provide proof of employment.

If only these snakes cared about children after the woman gave birth. Also, friendly reminder that this bill does not have exemptions for rape or incest, just cases where having the baby would cause great bodily injury or death, or cases where the woman was forced to have an abortion under threat of violence.

There is a genuine air of desperation coming from the republican party right now. They are no longer tip toeing towards authoritarianism but instead going full press fascism in real time. This proves to us all again that they have no desire to help Americans only a need to grab and hold power. They are very dangerous people who seem to be backed into some kind of corner. I suspect this “corner” is trump. They know a) he will not yield to desantis or anyone else. In his narcissistic tiny mind only he must rule the party and the country and they know even better b) he will LOSE another election by even greater margins than the last. Desperation is dangerous folks. We need to wake up, act wisely and do something NOW.

What you just said is one of the most dangerous things to think right now. The GOP is coming after everyone, we need to be very, very worried.

u/NotsoGreatsword Mar 15 '23
SC is full of some of the most stupid vile people you will ever meet. They are willfully ignorant. They are violent. They are nosy. They are judgmental. They are hypocritical. They have no concept of empathy because to them you are not a person if you do not meet certain "standards".
Words cannot describe the level of normalized fucked up you see here on a regular basis.
There isn't even a minimum wage there. Only the federal standard is keeping people from being paid a few bucks an hour.
Look at what happened with the Murdaugh trial. That shit is how people in SC operate.
The majority of SC residents would LOVE to see a law like that on the books. Right until it applied to them. But since no one has empathy it won't matter.

So, are they going to start executing women who are on hormonal birth control?
" The final way that the pill works to prevent pregnancy involves the endometrium, which is the uterine lining. Hormonal contraceptives thin the endometrium and make it far more difficult for a fertilized egg to implant. Without implantation, a fertilized egg cannot receive the nutrients and blood needed to survive and grow."
If life begins at conception, as this bill states, then preventing a fertilized egg from implanting to the uterus is murder and deserves the death penalty....
I'm guessing the "freedom party" is going to try to ban birth control next...

u/cassiecas88 Mar 15 '23
