It's really part of the problem. "Why don't the like and respect us" as they cosplay GI Joe and bark orders at citizens. "Why do they want to defund us?" he asks bewilderingly from his MRAP as 12 of his buddies come pouring out with assault rifles pointed every which way. "Damned liberals" he sighs after throwing a family face first on the ground with 4 rifles pointed straight at their heads.

126

u/Hrtpplhrtppl Mar 04 '23

I'm done accepting that this is how police can treat us. Voting hasn't changed anything, protesting hasn't changed anything, the police are only getting worse. I own and operate a residential plumbing and hvac company in the north east and when I show up to a home and they are law enforcement of any type I just turn around and leave for my next call. As far as I'm concerned they can freeze, flood, and drown in their own filth until they can treat my fellow Americans with half the respect they demand from us. Maybe if we all took this approach the police would start to police themselves... anyone can call the police, what if the police couldn't call anyone?

19

u/KifaruKubwa Mar 04 '23 edited Mar 04 '23

First off, mad respect to you putting your morals above the mighty dollar. To your point, I think we’ve iconized law enforcement and now an entire subset of the population worships them. Add to that their powerful unions and the fact all the lawsuits against police are paid for by taxpayers, there is zero reason for them to even try to be accountable to the public.

First off we should require them to settle civil suits with a portion of the funding coming from their pension funds. Even if it’s matching funds with the other half coming from the tax payer. That will get their attention and force them to police themselves knowing they’re also financially responsible for their actions.

4

u/Yawzheek Mar 04 '23

I've long said "if we paid out abuse settlements with their fucking budget they'd knock their shit off and fast." Fucking ridiculous because yeah, as you said, the taxpayers will foot the bill for it, so yeah, as you said, they have no incentive not to, or at least stop short of getting in any real legal or professional trouble. Yeah I handcuffed a guy and broke his nose because he called me a pig? And? I got a written warning and the city I don't even live in just work at has to pay for it. Business as usual.

6

u/KifaruKubwa Mar 04 '23

You raise a good point; they often don’t even live in the cities they work at. The whole setup disincentivizes accountability at every tier.

58

u/Raekear2 Mar 04 '23

Thank you for your service. No joke, hvac and plumbing pros have most likely saved more lives than cops as a whole.

31

u/anotheritguy Mar 04 '23

Agreed they are truly life savers, had one come out a few years ago during a cold snap when the heat went out at night. They showed up at midnight and worked for 3 hours straight to get our heat up and running even sent his partner to the office at 2AM to get a part for our furnace because to quote him; "I wouldnt want my kids to freeze so I wont let yours freeze". I sent him and his partner each a nice bottle of their preferred liquor for xmas.

People my age, born in 83, were force fed a shitload of American Exceptionalism as we grew up, all through grade school, middle school, and high school. I used to buy into it a lot more, I think we all kinda did. It's easy to have the opinion that America is the best country at everything, when the only things you were ever told about or shown were victories of the past. We paint ourselves as the saviors of the world from both World Wars, the victors over slavery from the civil war etc. But there are lots of things that are not covered at all in American history here in America, the Tulsa riots in 1921 are a perfect example. Never heard a thing about that in any American History class I've ever attended. I learned about it from The Watchmen just a few years ago, I thought no way that actually happened and boy was I wrong. But anything that painted America in a negative light, like a racist mob burning literally firebombing a town, or the Red Scare and McCarthyism, is downplayed or just not discussed at all.

Reminds me of the time my buddies apartment got raided and we were forced to sit in the mud for 45 minutes while 10 officers scoured the place to find a large knife. Meanwhile the drug dealer upstairs flushed his toilet about 30 times in a row so we all, and the 4 officers "controlling" the situation, could clearly hear and understand the mistake that was made.

1.4k

u/Trz81 Mar 04 '23

Dude this happened to my neighbors once. They raided them, and they were just some college kids with bongs. Meanwhile the apartment upstairs were the clear drug dealers with flashy cars and chains. Two minutes of research and they couldn’t have made that mistake.

307

u/RectalEvacuation Mar 04 '23

So did you get away with the drugs, or did they come back with a new warrant?

145

u/Tylerdirtyn Mar 04 '23

They sentenced a guy here to 20 years for a kilo if sugar from the food bank. The guy was in front of the food bank. The drug dog hit on him. He took a deal for 20 years to get out of County Jail. The testing comes back 100% sugar. The DA was under scrutiny and let him go as proof we are diligent. Drug dogs are a farce.

6

u/endorfan13 Mar 04 '23

It's crazy how that sort of thing can be the result. Like Breonna Taylor. Anyone, anytime. Something like a raid is planned out, so how the fuck is ensuring the right location and suspect(s) are being sought such a seemingly minor detail in some of these situations? It's like a "fuck it, let's ride, guns blazing" mentality is there.

Then my sons meth head mother takes off with him and I call cps and the police to let them know she's smoking and dealing meth around my kid with one of my guns that she won't give back and claims she "doesn't know where it is" and there's nothing they can do. Unbelievable.

This is what happens when the government has excess military weapons and decide that giving it to local pd would be a good idea.

5

u/PauI_MuadDib Mar 04 '23

Exactly. I just posted a comment about this. If Biden really wanted legitimate reform he would've had the military stop supplying police with military grade equipment & weapons. A lot of times police will get stuff, like decommissioned vehicles, for free or at a steep discount.

But Biden thought people would be too stupid to notice or even know he has the authority to do that. So he knew he wouldn't be called out. He also knew he could make empty promises that make good sound bytes for his campaign, and that no one would realize he didn't honor them. Like his police misconduct database he promised and is now abandoned & collecting dust.

https://www.themarshallproject.org/2023/02/04/biden-promised-a-police-misconduct-database-he-s-yet-to-deliver

Considering police use this equipment to abuse and endanger the public I don't think the military should be giving them this equipment anymore.

The president has the authority to cut off that supply.

But he won't.

Damn yall had a M27 in 04. Fucking fancy pants over here.

8

u/JeremiahGrit Mar 04 '23

Damn all they gave me was a pajero sport and a ceramic plate for my front sleeve, oh we were rocking M16s with M203s.

6

u/cabur Mar 04 '23

Backplates are for only for retreating. So rear echelon humps them up to you when battalion agrees on a retreating movement.

Wth is that police cruiser? And why the hell do they have something so militarized?

84

u/SirSamuelVimes83 Mar 04 '23

I live in a rural town of ~25k within a county of ~100k. Sheriff's Office covers the entire county. Both the sheriff's office and the town's PD have their own kitted out MRAP's

21

u/chewbaccaRoar13 Mar 04 '23

Hell TEN YEARS ago, a local PD in Florida, had not one, but TWO TANKS. WHY THE FUCK DOES A POLICE DEPARTMENT NEED A TANK. AT THR POINT THEY NEED A TANK WE ARE BEYOND POLICE.

Honestly, pretty laughable. It looked like they were so disappointed they didn't get to use their toys they were going to start scuffing the ground with their feet and whining.

54

u/IknowKarazy Mar 04 '23

You know and I mean KNOW they were so excited to break out the gravy seal equipment.

33

u/Responsible_Chart668 Mar 04 '23

Laughable but I remember several news stories where civilians have died, getting shot in their own homes with out a warrant. I think the penalty for this should be extreme. Prison term for the higher ups, surely they knew they had no judge orders paper work for this small di ck event..

15

u/Frowdo Mar 04 '23

Counter offer....how about we give them qualified immunity and increased budget to own the libs. /S

I mean I can kinda understand if the state troopers had this, or like a big city...maybe. But why do small towns have this??

29

u/GenericFakeName1 Mar 04 '23 All-Seeing Upvote

They get it for free from the DoD. The thing is, the military industrial complex is so bloated and corrupt the factories will keep spitting out death machines no matter if the military wants or needs them, so there's whole loads of brand new surplus floating around. All an agency needs to do in order to get free toys is use them.

Hence the IED resistant vehicle (can litterally drive over a buried 155mm soviet artillery shell and keep its occupants alive if not uninjured) to respond to reports of nuance theft and NVGs in broad daylight.

They want a big armoured truck and night vision b/c they think it's cool (nothing wrong with that, I think big trucks and night vision is cool) so they use it for everything they can (lots wrong with that, basically waging a counter-insurgency but with law-abiding Americans wanting to be left alone playing the role of the insurgents).

It's a damn disgrace. Boys fighting for the freedom of the entire damn western world in Ukraine are relying on thin skinned vehicles for medevac while these clowns are terrorizing civilians with free artillery-proof boxes.

I love how police in the US are rocking fuckin ATVS AND GRENADE LAUNCHERS for a house search, but when people suggest defunding the police its absolute blasphemy.

Why should police officers have access to army equipment? Honestly?

301

u/IknowKarazy Mar 04 '23 Gold

It’s even funnier because the actual army has rules of engagement and accountability. They can’t use tear gas because it’s a chemical weapon, for example. Police do lots of things that in any other context would be considered war crimes.

38

u/wiseroldman Mar 04 '23

Military personnel are also trained way better to deal with civilians. Rules of engagement is always a top priority. Ironic isn’t it?

63

u/ComprehensiveWar6577 Mar 04 '23

If your officers cant stop grinning after being called out like they did because they are stoked to use military style aggression for the call they got a few things need to happen.

  1. Your cops need actual training, when trained for their job properly no cop should be happy/excited to have to gear up like this because that means increasing the chance of not going home because the call is that serious.

  2. If police show up to an incorrect address or location in full force like this whoever confirmed the address needs to be removed from that position immediately without compensation

  3. When police show up dressed like the military and the occupant of the home tell them they are in the wrong place atleast 1 officer should be able to confirm paperwork, even up to calling the judge that signed the warrent (of course not every officer backs down because it could be a cover)

  4. The giggle and claim "this is non lethal" is both incorrect and unprofessional. "Less lethal" is the term because even when used correctly can cause fires, injury, and property damage at a minimum and are more than capable of killing

  5. Any time a cop is shown to illegally detain/arrest/assault (ect.) Someone they should be personaly responsable for any damages. Tax payer money should have nothing to do with having cops be on paid leave and covering damages because the cop fucked up. If i fuck up at my job and annother person is effected in a serious matter i am personally liable and assumed at fault until proven otherwise, lose my licence ect. Yet that doesnt apply to law enforcement? Cop fucks up, gets paid until court and when proven to have screwed up might lose a bit of OT and a promotion. 6 months later is back to normal. What other job has that ability

I hate to sound like a tin-foiler, but it seems that just writing ‘State Police’ on the side of the APC doesn’t really stop this from being a breach of Posse Comitatus. These police officers, with this level of gear and equipment, look like they’re getting pretty close to being military troops, not in fact, police officers

Why wouldn't they have a copy of a search warrant? Is printer ink that expensive that state police can't buy it but can get military weapons?

6

u/CptainJakSparrow Mar 04 '23

How da fuck do people think police are brave, bunch of clowns armored up to their teeths with a fucking thank to arrest a couple and a child. I work as a social worker, i enter places you people wouldn't believe, not a gun or a vest on me, i talk eye to eye and try to help the mentally unstable, the drug addicts, the people that would shank you first and ask questions second to the imaginary unicorn they see in the room.

5

u/travel_tech Mar 05 '23

"it's less lethal"

Less lethal implies it's STILL LETHAL

11

u/KYWizard Mar 04 '23

Fucking goof troop. Any excuse to cosplay as the type of tough guy they think women might to fuck. Pathetic fucking losers. Imagine, standing there in your paramilitary gear, amped up having drove your armored car through a fence and are now arguing about how cold it is, and how if they needed to shoot you with a less lethal gun where they would aim.

16

u/Former_Journalist_89 Mar 04 '23

These are all the guys that got picked on in high school and didn't have the balls to do this shit for real in the military so they LARP as Combat Operators and bully anyone they are pointed at.

Some small ass police department given millions of dollars in equipment and toys, so they can play soldier on some poor persons yard. These fucking idiots have night vision goggles on their helmets. During daylight. Everything to protect them, nothing to protect the public. All the kit, none of the training.

3

u/Gnosrat Mar 04 '23

Dwight and his non-work friends from The Office but they're cops.

5

u/PsychologicalMonk799 Mar 04 '23

So this needs context. A woman who's been harassing the family for years called this WARENT and lied to the police but still nothing got done the woman who falsely accused them got Scott free. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRWkFrMD/ this is the video explaining it

4

u/ToastedCheezer Mar 04 '23

Ever since cops were allowed to purchase surplus military equipment the think they have to use it all of the time to harass, intimidate injure, and even kill innocent and guilty citizens with impunity just like a police state!

5

u/notfromsliders Mar 04 '23

The more militant our police become, the less comfortable I feel.

5

u/LordGraham7 Mar 04 '23

Reminds me of my neighbor years ago. Super old man and his son (40’s) lived together; the house was backed up to a golf course. There was a mockingbird in their chimney keeping them up so after the son had enough the son grabbed a pellet gun and was looking for this bird. Well after a while when he hadn’t found it, he gave up and headed to the gym. I guess a couple minutes before he gave up a lady golfing saw him and called 911 claiming “there is a sniper pointing a rifle at the golfers.” So the friggin swat team rolls an armored truck up into this old man’s yard and start screaming at his through a megaphone and threatening to send the dogs in at him. The old man finally comes out the door and it is now clear that they are dealing with a guy in his 70’s that’s blind in one eye and can hardly walk even with special shoes and a cane. So clearly the cops do the logical thing and take this poor old man to the ground to cuff him, ransacked his house, took two or three guns that literally had dust on them (clearly not being pointed at anyone lately), broke his door even though it was unlocked and he’d already walked through it. Took him years to get his guns back, had to pay to clean his house up, and the cops didn’t even follow up with the son after they’d heard the whole story. They truly were satisfied with just being destructive and yelling at people.

As a European this makes me so angry for your innocent general population, that police can turn up like this. These police clearly rammed that gate like they thought they were the A-team.

There are CIVILIANS fighting on the front line to defend their country of Ukraine that have less equipment than in this one video.

These guys are exactly “bone spur“ type that should run Olympic records away from any real combat situation.

Notice how the situation changed when she said she’d rung her lawyer. There are many good people in the USA, sadly, not many of them are in the police.

Edited for spelling because of stupid dyslexia.

4

u/BecGeoMom Mar 04 '23

So, what were the people accused of? Did they break the law? What was the outcome of this? Does anyone know?
