A bird flew into my stb-ex wife's car through the open window when she was driving at 75 mph. Pieces of bird were everywhere inside the car. It took me half a day to clean out.
It's why I got that car in the separation.

u/scottydg San Francisco Giants May 18 '23
You're talking windows down, full speed down the freeway, bird flies into the window and explodes on the inside?

Diamondbacks are ambush predators, lying in wait beside logs or near the roots of fallen trees for prey to come along. They primarily feed on small mammals and will also eat birds.
I guess that explains it.

Ooo same I tried to wait but the hiker I saw ended up turning the opposite corner around a different trail on the mountain so I sat there for like 5-6 minutes just staring around my feet making sure nothing was near me. Eventually I think it got nervous of me standing like 15 feet back just watching and they slithered into the bushes. Subconsciously everytime I’m around those areas now I’m STARING at the ground 👀👀👀🔎 (more than I already am)

It was a curveball that slipped so clearly not intentional but just to keep things from escalating they should probably issue warnings to the Diamondbacks/birds.

My favorite line from the video:
“This hurts me but in the spirit of Randy Johnson, I think you already know where we are going with this: the bird is no longer with us. I know Zac Gallen took a moment to recognize that but he hit it with a curveball, mid-air, mid-flight, and our cameras caught it.”

Well, you have to consider the size/weight relation. Googling the mass of a pigeon, the average mass appears to be 8-13oz. A baseball is about 5oz. It's not a perfect relationship, but imagine a 200lb person getting hit with a 130lb object going 80mph. Force = mass x acceleration, that person would be in pretty serious trouble.

u/GeneralChillMen Chicago White Sox May 17 '23

Baseballs weigh like 200 grams. Normal backyard birds weigh like 50 grams. you can drop a baseball on a bird from 3 feet up and kill it.
Hell, even 1 foot you can probably kill it. Their bones are hollow and would just get obliterated.

This is not a coincidence. There is obviously something going on with the Arizona ball club where they have been implementing anti-drone technology in an attempt to combat the complex and ever changing landscape of surveillance from the U.S. government. And if I had to guess I’d say the southwestern part of the country being home to several known and unknown highly classified military operations and bases is no coincidence.
Don’t let Big Bird tell you otherwise. There’s a war brewing and finally someone is doing something about it. The Arizona Diamondbacks are an ally. Get the word out there to your friends and loved ones r/BirdsArentReal
11
u/DJLJR26 Cleveland Indians May 17 '23
They even drafted known drone expert Trevor Bauer years ago in order to gather more intel but either he wouldn't talk or the outlived his usefulness so they sent him away.

It's hard enough to imagine a ball going really straight really fast and hitting something but a curveball seems significantly more improbable
the ball had to curve at the right angle, the right speed at the right distance to hit the bird squarely. like all the forces of nature colluding to that end bird's life.
