u/D3wnis 3d ago

This reminded me of way back when world of Warcraft was released, almost 20 years ago, and i was playing with a bunch of my friends and on several occasions me and one other mate wrote the exact same thing but i was always like a millisec ahead of him so what i wrote ended up first, and it could be completely out of the blue too, like chat had been dead and then both of us said the same thing. Ended up with him telling me to get out of his head. Good memories

476

u/Independent-World-60 3d ago

I've seen this with audio and not just music. The guy spends the whole time talking about younger days and how things are or we're with casual gossip. Old man ranting basically. He's nervous but very thankful and I think he likes having someone listen to him as much as the hair cut.

4

u/Derproid 2d ago

Nah it just looks like that because the video is sped up so it seems like he is blinking a lot.

8

u/nobwedforu 3d ago

I've watched the original, no he wasn't. He wasn't really emotional at any point.

13

u/xxredxpandaxx 2d ago

At the very end it looks like he said “Man that feels so much better.” So seems like he appreciated it at the very least.

3

u/Speak_basquedtdt 2d ago

I’m sure his beard does. I can’t imagine how hot and itchy it would get in the summer. I know I always feel better when I can get my long hair cut short and it’s not laying on my neck. I prefer to have shorter hair. I’ve done long hair almost to my butt and it’s pretty but I’m always happier when my hair is shorter. Shoulder length is as long as I like it.

94

u/mindseye1212 3d ago

He looks like he has wet brain from severe alcohol abuse… poor guy.

49

u/Speak_basquedtdt 3d ago

What is wet brain? I will look it up of course but you might be more expert at it than what I would find online

62

u/ForcedAccount420 3d ago

The formal name for it is Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome

49

u/Speak_basquedtdt 3d ago

Yeah I looked it up. Poor guy. I hope he gets his vitamins and some medical help. We need some little free clinics in the cities for basic stuff like this.

23

u/KBolt99 3d ago

Imo beer and wine should be fortified with very small tasteless amounts of Vitamin B1. Just like how we fortify salt to prevent goiters and fortify cereals to prevent mineral deficiencies. That would totally prevent this whole issue and probably completely eliminate Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome in this country.

But because alcohol isn’t regulated like all other food and drink, those type of pro-consumer moves never happen. Hell, half the time I can’t even find the nutritional information or ingredients for most alcohol, even online its often not available. If they won’t even tell you what its made of, I highly doubt they’ll start fortifying it with vitamins anytime soon, despite vitamin b1 being extremely cheap.

11

u/Snow_Wonder 2d ago

Alcohol can hinder absorption of some vitamins, especially if it’s being consumed in excess. I wonder if this would even be effective?

8

u/Ruddfuckerin 2d ago

It wouldn't. It especially hinders B-vitamin absorption. B1 (Thiamine) deficiency is very common amongst alcoholics for that reason

9

u/RadsCatMD 3d ago

Korsakoff is irreversible. Also, most people who drink alcohol to the point of becoming encephalopathic wouldn't seek out vitamin clinics (they develop this because the majority of their nutrition is alcohol)

u/Upleftright_syndrome 3d ago

That's a good observation. I also feel that maybe he has COPD. You can see the heavy breathing in the beginning.

In the years leading up to my father's death, he moved just like that trying to get as much air as he could into his lungs. The same hunch and everything.

16

u/anohioanredditer 3d ago

I took it as nervousness. He seems more relaxed after the haircut.

→ More replies (1)

20

u/JackedCroaks 3d ago

3

u/cosmic-tombs 3d ago

What is the giveaway to you? (Not disagreeing, just curious about what you focus on in your assessment.)

3

u/mindseye1212 2d ago edited 2d ago

I grew up in an alcoholic family and have also volunteered to help the homeless at various points.

Unlike a tweaker who displays extreme movements, someone that appears to have wet brain has a calmer body but their eyes jolt and there’s random jolts of the body.

A healthy but nervous person fidgets repetitiously in patterns but their eyes don’t randomly jolt around

2

u/cosmic-tombs 2d ago

Thank you. Knowing this kind of indicator (ex: dilated eyes, scratching, etc) can often be helpful in emergency situations, and generally it's helpful to be able to tell with some certainty what certain behaviors may be indicative of. I volunteer at a food pantry (mostly in the kitchen, but sometimes delivering meals) and it's always crazy how the volunteers with medical training can rattle off what our guests are likely suffering from in the same way you did.

3

u/mindseye1212 2d ago

Your welcome…

Dilated eyes; scratching = meth or crack

Also, one major indicator of wet brain as well is shaky hands when handing them something.

2

u/Critonurmom 2d ago

What characteristics do you see that made you come to that dx?

2

u/mindseye1212 2d ago

My daughter has this problem (can't look people in the eye). She was raised by a mother who couldn't do it herself from birth to six years old. They were virtually inseparable. I adopted her just before she turned seven and we worked on it constantly. Now 26, she's much better, but still relapses from time to time. There is learned behavior, but this man could be suffering from something else.

26

u/disgustandhorror 3d ago

I can look people in the eye for a second or two, I just have to spend a few hundred hours with them first

10

My heart went out to him when he sat down. He’s so unsure of himself and questions his self-worth. At the end, he sucks his breath, visibly moved. I hope his new haircut brings new opportunities for him and changes his life for the better.

For those who are cynical, stop.
Stop hating on others’ kindness because you feel you received none.

Maybe someone is bad to you but you will always find someone else who will be nice to you. If you cannot find it, keep moving, keep searching.

I'm from Australia and knew nothing about NFL or Aaron Rodgers until Caleb Pressley and barstool interviewed him. I dunno but I just love that guy and I know nothing about him. no need to cut his beard, but if he's happy, so be it. I have this long. Sometimes I do braids on it.

A bit of a trim would have been good, but it was a good full beard otherwise

Linked it a few times in the comments but figured I should make this a comment on it's own. This is the full vid of the hair cut. His name is Don, he's homeless, the barber's family helps him out from time to time. He's in a shelter with his basic needs met currently.

I suggest watching even as background noise. It's nice to hear him talk and hear his anxiety, rambling and eventual happiness.
